Includes professional natural makeup application, dry hair styling, a 1.5 hour in-studio beauty shoot (time for 3 outfits) with KMS protégé photographer Joeli Middlebrooks, standard natural retouching, a remote video photo reveal appointment approximately 2 weeks after photo session for client to view and make image selections from a final presentation of approximately 55 retouched images. Includes an 8x8 linen bedside album with client’s choice of 20 images, as well as the corresponding 20 image selections as web-resolution digital files for personal use available for download. {Q:} I’m one of Kara Marie’s past clients. What should I expect my experience with Joeli to be compared to my experience with KM?
{A:} The beautiful thing about working with Kara Marie’s protege Joeli, is that this wasn’t an overnight occurrence. Joeli worked at Kara Marie Studios for over 2 years, on most every single photo session, most every photo reveal process, at photography workshops and on-location shoots. All this to say, beyond being her own independent talented artist and amazing human being, Joeli is extremely well-versed in the high standards upheld at Kara Marie Studios and is well qualified to take amazing care of her clients. Because the package structure, photo shoot procedures, and even hair and makeup artist remain the same, KM clients are in the very capable hands of the next best thing.
{Q:} I’ve already had a personal branding session with Joeli through Kara Marie Collective. How is this different?
{A:} So happy to hear you’re a “frequent flyer”! While you can absolutely expect the same level of attention, direction, and care throughout your photo shoot experience whether you’re shooting with KMC or KMS… the types of images, the amount of post-processing/retouching, and the finished product is different. With personal branding, the objective is to have approachable, professional, and authentic headshots and personality shots that represent your brand well. These branding images are color-corrected with slight adjustments to contrast, exposure, etc, and a subtle styled preset may be applied.
With beauty portraiture, in addition to the standard adjustments, you can expect a full natural retouch that pays close attention to detail including blemish removal, gentle skin retouching/smoothing, artistic edits, and minor wardrobe adjustments. Beyond that, you can expect your collection of beauty portraits to be more diverse than just straight-on headshots. Beauty images tend to be more editorial and artistic, with a broader variety of poses and facial expressions.
With a beauty portraiture experience, rather than browsing your images on an online photo gallery, we have a remote theatrical photo reveal appointment with you. In other words, we make it a little more of a…thing. You’ll watch a theatrical slideshow of your best images set to music, and then we will share each image with you individually in a large scale format. Because it tends to be a more thoughtful selection process than just picking your favorite new headshot for your “About Me'“ section on your website, we walk you through the entire selection and ordering process at this private photo reveal appointment, helping you select which images will go in your album, if applicable, or which images you would like as prints or digital files.

{Q:} What do your packages include? How much should I expect to spend?
{A:} The most popular amongst Kara Marie’s clients is “theWORKS” package for which includes a full photo shoot experience with hair styling and makeup application, a 1.5 hour studio shoot (time for 3 outfits), standard retouching, a remote video photo reveal appointment approximately 2 weeks after the photo shoot to theatrically view your collection of retouched images. TheWorks package also includes the addition of a luxury 8x8 20 image album and those 20 selected images as web resolution digital files on a crystal USB for personal or social media use. At your photo reveal appointment, you will receive 10% off of any additional items such as an upgraded album, additional album images, wall art, photo prints, and/or digital files. After all is said and done, clients tend to spend about $3000 (on average) for their session and the additional images/photo products they desire. Clients are almost always SHOCKED by how many photos they cannot live without from their session. They think they are going to be the one client that just doesn't get good photos...and they're always proved wrong (but with a smile!). Yep, we're *THAT* good here!
Our packages are thoughtfully built based on our clients’ most frequent purchases as well as the high demand and limited availability. We do have an incredible selection of additional products that you may upgrade to or purchase separately at your photo reveal appointment.
{Q:} When and how will I select my favorite images from my shoot?
{A:} The Kara Marie Studio is proud to offer remote photo reveal and ordering appointments 2 weeks after your photo session. We do this for a host of reasons::: First and foremost, for your convenience! We've gotten REALLY good at our little system for helping clients decide between images, showing similar images side by side for easy selection, and assisting clients with getting great variety for albums and the perfect wall art pieces. Because we do show a LOT of killer images, it can be overwhelming to navigate on your own and we don't want our customer service to stop at the photo shoot. The collaborative photo reveal is much appreciated by our clients and is our favorite part of the whole process!
{Q:} Where will my photo session take place? Do you have a studio?
{A:} We have a wonderful natural light studio in S. Austin that we work out of. It is a minimalist’s dream with multiple backdrop options and a variety of furniture to work with, as well as the most important thing…privacy.
{Q:} What are your hair and makeup artists experienced with? Can I choose to do my own hair and makeup?
{A:} Our artists maintain an extensive hair and makeup kit to accommodate all skin types and shades and are experienced with all 3 of the main ethno hair proifiles including Asian, Caucasian, and African. If you have skin sensitivities or conditions, or if your hair takes longer than average to style, we will absolutely still be able to accommodate you. Please shoot us an e-mail ahead of time so that we can have the proper tools on hand and also so that we block out the appropriate amount of time.
Should you decide you’d like to do your own hair and makeup for your session, simply let us know at the time of booking and we will adjust your package and give you a few photography-specific tips to consider when getting prepared for your session!
{Q:} What should I wear?
{A:} This is probably the most popular question we get….and the answer is simple…whatever you feel beautiful in. Our signature style is the "effortless cool girl" look, which, lucky for you, involves things you likely already have in your closet. A bodysuit, an oversized sweater, cropped sweatshirt and high waist panties, your favorite jeans or little black dress with combat boots….genuinely whatever suits your fancy. Joeli will be in contact with you prior to your session to discuss wardrobe and help you with ideas with a collaborative mood board should you find that helpful!
