KARA MARIE TROMBETTA ||| PHOTOGRAPHER // SPEAKER // EDUCATOR

Photographer Kara Marie Trombetta has commanded the camera professionally for nearly 15 years. She has made it her life’s work to advocate for female individualism and self-love through her work both as a photographic artist and as a photography educator. With impactful black and white photographs as her medium of choice, Kara’s work has celebrated thousands of extraordinary women over the years.

A lover of simplicity, Kara Marie uses natural light and shadow to honor the female form while her minimalist, honest style of capturing women allows the subject to feel like themselves in her work.

With her own personal growth as a catalyst, Kara Marie has come to regard the absence of clothing on her subjects simply as the removal of distraction and the celebration of the most natural self, rather than the objective of merely taking “sexy” photos. When asked about the classification of her work as boudoir photography, Trombetta gently explains: “I work to grant women the permission to be fully and naturally themselves without layers to hide behind, without the need for a glamorous makeover or extreme retouching, and without the pressure to act provocatively on demand. Women are sexy, yes. They are also intelligent, introspective, resilient, strong, funny, powerful, intuitive and emotional. Showing them that they don’t have to model a certain way for the sake of appealing to others is important to me. I don’t want to take photos of women for others’ enjoyment as seems to be the main objective of most traditional boudoir photography…there is more than enough of that out in the world. Rather, I want to take photos for women. I work to help women discover and celebrate their confidence. Limiting their expression of confidence to mere sexuality is doing a great disservice to the multitude of characteristics that women are comprised of.”

As an educator and speaker, Kara Marie’s teaching style is approachable, entertaining, and caters to all experience levels and genres of photographers. Her collaboration with The Portrait Masters has allowed thousands of photographers to learn from her comprehensive video course, The Boudoir Series (Part II coming fall 2022), and she continues teach the message of inspiring confidence through portraiture with presentations and workshops around the world.

After having been headquartered in Austin, Texas for 10 years, Kara Marie along with her husband and two sons relocated to Como, Italy in 2021. It is there, in what she references as “the most beautiful light in the world”, that she continues her photo and educational work at a more intentional pace while honoring both her family time as well as her creative space.
